Neuroscience Research

The Neuroscience Group, Drs. Sato-Bigbee, Milstien, and Kordula, are using biochemical, molecular, and structural approaches to understand the pathogenesis of alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis and to elucidate the molecular signaling events that are essential for the growth and differentiation of oligodendrocytes and neurons. Much of their work is focused on understanding how neuronal cells sense changes in their environment and the molecular events that allow them to make appropriate responses to these changes. It is hoped that a more detailed understanding of these responses will provide insights into novel treatments for neuronal diseases.
